Manolo Blahniks were always favorites of celebrities, socialites, and fashionistas, but thanks to HBO’s “Sex and the City,” perhaps no other premium shoe designer is now so well known to the general public. Manolo Blahniks were a particular favorite of Carrie Bradshaw, the show’s main character, and it’s easy to see why. Manolo Blahnik’s creations are of the highest quality, impossibly stylish, and more comfortable than you would imagine stiletto heels could be.
Manolo Blahnik is a Spanish-born fashion designer who moved to London in the 1960s. Originally he designed clothing, too, but discovered his true passion was for designing shoes. In 1972, he opened his first boutique in Chelsea, London. Today his shoes are sold in high-end boutiques and department stores around the world, and because of the internet, his creations can be ordered and worn by women living in even the most rural areas.
Manolo Blahnik primarily sells stiletto heels, though his collection often includes one or two flats and several styles of boots, depending on the season. He has a “core” set of classic styles, which are always offered. These include the Carolyne, a workplace-appropriate slingback style well-known for its comfort; the Campari, a close-toed Mary Jane style in patent leather; and the Sedarby, an open-toed d’Orsay style that became especially famous as “Carrie’s stolen shoes” in an episode of Sex and the City.
Manolo Blahnik’s stiletto heels primarily come in heights of 90 mm or 105 mm, roughly equivalent to 3.5 – 4 inches. Some styles offer optional lower heels. Regardless of the height chosen, the shape of the stiletto stays the same. It is a very slender, slightly curved stiletto, more delicate-looking than those of some other high-end designers. Women are usually surprised at how comfortable Manolo Blahniks are. This is because the heels are made with careful thought given to placing the heel beneath the wearer’s foot in a way that offers the best balance and most comfort.
